Descaling Nespresso

Over time, there will be a build-up of limescale in your Nespresso machine. This is caused by the limescale particles in the water. Regularly descaling your Nespresso is necessary. Waterontharder.com explains how you can descale your coffee machine and how you can prevent limescale.

Descale your Nespresso coffee machine in 5 steps

Removing limescale is easy: follow our steps. To descale your coffee machine, you can use a special Nespresso descaling kit. Of course, it is also possible to use a universal descaling agent.

Step 1: use a Nespresso descaling set

Turn the Nespresso machine on and wait for the lights to stop blinking. Fill the tank with 500 ml water and the descaling agent. Place a bowl under the machine to catch the water.

Step 2: descale your Nespresso

Press the buttons of your coffee machine for three seconds at the same time. The lights will both start blinking. The descaling program of your Nespresso has started. Press the button for a large cup of coffee (lungo) to start flushing.

Step 3: restart flushing process

Your coffee machine continues flushing until the water tank is empty. Fill the tank again. Empty the bowl you use to collect water and place it back under the Nespresso. Restart the flushing process by pressing the lungo button.

Step 4: cleaning the Nespresso

Remove the water tank from the machine, flush with clean water and refill. Now you only use water. Empty the bowl you use to collect the water. Put both the tank and the bowl back and flush the machine again.

Step 5: descaling menu

You Nespresso is descaled and completely clean again. To turn off the descaling menu, press both buttons at the same time for three seconds. You can now normally use your coffee machine.

Never descale your Nespresso again with a water softener

The descaling process of your coffee machine is quite easy but remember that you also have to clean your other household devices. Your shower head, water boiler, washing machine and iron are affected by limescale. With a water softener, you never have to descale your Nespresso and other devices ever again.

The Amfa4000® water softener prevents new limescale from accumulating in your devices and it removes existing limescale. You will also get 10 years full warranty on the Amfa4000®. More information about the purchase of a water softener can be found on the page’s costs en installation.

Your questions about descaling answered

My coffee tastes strange after descaling. How is that possible?

Sometimes, your coffee can taste a bit bitter after descaling. Completely flush your coffee machine again. It is possible limescale residue or a bit of descaling agent has not been removed.

Why does my Nespresso have limescale?

Limescale is the result of hard water. If you do not have a water softener, then your water is ‘hard’ This means it contains minuscule limescale particles. You cannot see these particles, but they do cause limescale. The particles build up as white limescale in your household devices. To remove these, you have to descale the Nespresso. The harder your water is, the more often you have to repeat the process. View the water hardness in your region.

How can I prevent limescale build-up in my Nespresso?

Descaling your Nespresso is only a temporary solution of course. If you want to prevent the build-up of limescale, purchasing a water softener is the best solution. This device binds limescale to calcium and magnesium ions, so it cannot damage your devices.
